The Benefits of Tracking Your Comics
September 1st, 2021
I did not realise I had as big of a collection as I do, until I decided to build a database. Off the top of my head, I do know what I own in collected editions, but when it comes to individual issues, I have no idea. So the plan was, I would build a database with all my collected editions and single issues, so I could easily refer back to it before buying anything new.
In terms of research however, it has become an incredibly helpful tool. The software I have been using is CLZ Collector, as well as a duplicate copy in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. Both options offer the ability to comment on issues or collected editions. When doing research, this allows me to add comments for specific books. Whether that is related to my doctoral research, or notes on things I am currently reading that I want to write about later.
Having this tool, especially for someone with GAD and CFS, makes it easier to keep track of specific thoughts per book. This also does help to stop from buying doubles. Upon realising just how many books I do have, I am now extremely worried that I will forget that I have something, and will unintentionally double dip.
The best piece of advice I can give is to start creating your database as soon as possible. The larger the collection gets, the more daunting a task it is.
